Lafonia was born from a simple passion: to create luxury garments that embody the pure, untouched beauty of the Falkland Islands whilst supporting domestic wool production.

As global wool prices have fallen, farmers in these islands have faced an uncertain future. Resilient communities that have raised sheep here for generations fear their unique way of life is at risk. Our founder wanted to use a passion for garment construction to showcase the unique attributes of Falkland Islands wool: incredibly soft, exceptionally clean, and uniquely radiant.

 

Inspired by the resourcefulness of the local community, a single bale of clip was purchased from a family farm. The goal was to produce a simple yet beautiful couture fabric that would showcase the qualities of merino sourced from world's most remote pastures.

The raw wool was shipped to the UK where a fascinating journey into the world of textile design began. The precious fibre was passed from one skilled artisan to another where it was meticulously scoured (washed), carded (combed), spun (twisted) and ultimately woven into truly luxurious material.

 

This sumptuous cloth, crafted through the dedicated efforts of many, became the foundation of all our designs. The brand was named after the central plains at the heart of this stunning archipelago, encapsulating the resilient spirit that has defined these tiny islands for centuries:

Inspired by the roaring winds and tempestuous seas of the South Atlantic, our products are built to last. We ignore fleeting trends, and focus instead on sophisticated designs that are shaped by our values: luxury, sustainability, community and purity.

We produce our textiles in limited quantities at small mills where they can be crafted with care and precision. Free from the harsh acids and toxic dyes common in industrial processing, the wool retains a natural purity that epitomises the inherent beauty of the Falkland Islands.

 

We reject the wear-it-once mantra of fast fashion and have a non-negotiable commitment to sustainable circularity. Each and every piece is engineered to be repairable with minimal sewing knowledge. When the time comes for retirement, all of our garments can be safely composted at home, regenerating the soil to commence another cycle of wool production.
